This summer, Delano’s sister publication Paperjam offers you an idea for a weekly outing to share with friends or family. In this third instalment, it’s time to visit our friends the lepidopterans at the Butterfly Garden in Grevenmacher.

The Butterfly Garden is a must-see for butterfly enthusiasts and nature lovers alike! Nestled in the heart of Grevenmacher, this island of paradise, with a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a humidity level of 70-80%, is home to between thirty and forty varieties of butterfly over an area of 600m2. That’s the equivalent of three tennis courts.

This haven of peace, however, is home to more than butterflies. Chinese quail, chameleons, turtles, various types of birds and bees, as well as a multitude of tropical plants and multicoloured flowers will give you a change of scenery without even leaving the country.

The visit lasts between 30 minutes and an hour. The garden is open to visitors from 9am to 5pm, with the last admission allowed until 4pm.

A few rules to follow

To make the most of this place and to preserve all its magic, the staff ask you to please follow a few instructions:

- Parents must ensure that their children remain with them throughout the visit

- Although it is difficult to leave, at the end of the visit it is necessary to leave the garden without delay

- Follow the signposted route carefully during your visit

- Dogs are not allowed in the garden.

If you fail to comply with any of these instructions, the staff on site have the right to ask you to leave the garden immediately.

If you want to continue admiring the butterflies or enjoy a gourmet break, then head for the Brasserie. Whether you fancy a hot or cold drink, pastries, cakes, tarts, savoury snacks or ice cream, the artisanal products carefully concocted in their workshops will delight your palate.

As for those who prefer to enjoy the peace and quiet and fine weather elsewhere, Grevenmacher’s Butterfly Garden is just a stone’s throw away from the Moselle and its vineyards--there are plenty of places where you can have a drink.
