Seven companies fielded teams--made up of employees and their family members--during the “Cents Corporate Challenge”. The fundraiser was organised by the Luxembourg Red Cross international section, which groups together English-speaking volunteers representing around 30 nationalities.

Contests at the sports day, also called the “Triple C”, included a fitness challenge, egg toss, tug-of-war, and relay, sack and three-legged races, according to Jonathan Kent, president of the section.

Nordea Bank donated €5,000, while the other companies that participated contributed a €1,500 registration fee. Altogether that yielded €18,500.

The funds will be used to support a Red Cross translation service, which aids asylum seekers and refugees in their dealings with authorities and other organisations here in the Grand Duchy.

The RBC Investor & Treasury Services team took the overall crown, with HSBC coming in second and Elvinger Hoss Prussen placing third.

The annual sporting challenge got started in 2014 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Luxembourg Red Cross. The event raised more than €10,000 in 2014 and €15,000 in 2015, which was used to support the Red Cross food banks that help local families.

The Triple C was held Sunday at the INS, Luxembourg’s national sports training centre, in Cents.
