Jude Law’s box office draw means an additional performance of “Obsession” on 24 June next year Greg Williams

The box office draw of Jude Law performing live on stage meant that the original run of Ivan van Hove’s production of “Obsession” at the Grand Théâtre sold out soon after tickers were put on sale. Now a matinée show has been added for 3 p.m. on June 24, 2017. Tickets can be purchased here.

The play is a welcome return for van Hove, who directed Juliette Binoche in “Antigone” last season. The work in progress is based on the 1943 feature film “Obsession” by Luchino Visconti, itself based on James M Cain’s novel “The Postman Always Rings Twice” (which was filmed twice in Hollywood, in 1946 with John Garfield and Lana Turner and 1981 with Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange). Law will play the vagabond who is hired to work in a diner but begins a fatal affair with the owner’s wife.
