The number of people testing positive for covid-19 decreased by 35% in the week of 14 to 20 February and the weight on the regular and intensive care units has lightened, indicated a report by the health ministry.

Figures released by the ministry showed 3,648 positive cases down from 5,871 the previous week. The number of PCR tests carried out has also gone down from 24,343 to 15,271. Meanwhile 50 people reported a positive rapid antigen test, down from 65. But the self-tests are not factored in the calculation of the positivity rate.

The largest decrease in positivity was recorded in the 0-14 years-old age group (-64%). In the previous week 21% of the positive tests by children were antigenic tests carried out at school, while for the week of the recently released figures there were none as it was a school holiday. The 15 to 59 years-old group saw a decrease of 26% to 36% in positive cases. 18% fewer positive cases were also registered for the 60 to 64 years-old age group.

The regular covid unit reported 42 patients, 18 of which were unvaccinated. In the intensive care unit, the number of occupied beds decreased from ten to nine compared to the previous week.

For the week of 14 to 20 February, 7 new deaths related to covid-19 were reported. The average age of the deceased was 85 years old.

The temporary vaccine centre at Luxexpo The Box will close on 5 March and the Limpertsberg centre will reopen on 8 March. The health directorate has said that opening hours at the Victor Hugo centre will be the same as at the other national centres in Esch-Belval and Ettelbruck, that is from 7am to 7pm on weekdays and from 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Healthcare centres other than the CHL can treat patients who caught the virus. Patients can also be transferred between different locations to avoid surgeries being postponed. Previously,  non-urgent surgeries that do not have a direct impact on a patient’s health were postponed.
