The health ministry on 20 July released the latest numbers relating to the virus. Although the number of new infections decreased by 14%--reaching 4,830 over a week--fewer people got tested. Compared to the prior week where 14,294 people had a PCR test done, only 13,168 did last week.
While the number of infections went down--it had decreased by 2% at the start of July after a growth witnessed over 5 weeks--the number of hospitalisations and deaths linked to the disease is slightly on the rise.
28 patients were admitted into the normal care unit--an equal number to the week prior--however, the intensive care unit, which had not had any patients anymore, admitted a new patient. 6 more people passed away in circumstances linked to the disease, bringing the death toll to 1,107 for the grand duchy.
With the summer holidays and ensuing travels, the ministry shares that it is difficult to identify the origin of infection for most people.
The vaccination rate in the country continues to stall, reaching 78.9%, compared to 78.8% before. The Luxembourg government had announced it would hold off voting on a vaccine mandate, a decision prime minister Xavier Bettel (DP) and the chamber of deputies supported.
