Following the government’s decision to restrict some activities solely to the vaccinated and those recovered from covid, the CovidCheck app has encountered some criticism from some, who cited data protection as an issue.

The ministry of digitalisation on 7 December gave its answer to the stricter restrictions and the potential data breach they could cause: via a common effort with the CTIE, the updated app will be able to address the issue.

While the current app only shows whether a person is compliant with 3G rules--meaning a person is either tested, vaccinated, or recovered--the new version asks users to pick either a 3G certificate, a 2G certificate or a “Travel” certificate. The latter applies rules of the travel destination to determine the validity of an individual’s current status.

CovidCheck has in recent weeks caused a lot of debates. First, its  outraged the non-vaccinated. Under the new regulation, those who do not comply with the 2G rule will have to get . , such as eating out or going to the cinema, will also only be available to the recovered and vaccinated.

The changes in sanitary measures have added fuel to the anti-vaccine movements, leading on the Christmas market and the house of prime minister Xavier Bettel (DP).

The app had also previously been updated to  with unlikely names such as Mickey Mouse to pass the scan test.
