Station manager Lisa McLean hosted the breakfast show on Ara City Radio on Monday morning in the absence of Tom Clarke and welcomed Duncan Roberts into the studio for the regular Delano’s Top of the Week slot.
Volatile energy prices, exacerbated by the conflict, and the record high at filling station pumps last Thursday was the kick-start to a discussion about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its continuing consequences. Energy minister Claude Turmes has said that supply lines are guaranteed but that prices will continue to be unpredictable for the foreseeable future. The EU, meanwhile, on Friday announced its strategy to make well before 2030, starting with gas.
Sanctions against Russian oligarchs and the seizure of their assets was also a topic on the show, especially as that 12 of the Russian oligarchs in the Forbes top 40 list have assets worth $140 billion in Luxembourg and sanctions have still not been imposed on Gazprombank despite a last Friday.
Duncan then provided listeners with three “what’s on” tips for the coming week including St. Patrick’s day events, such as the on Thursday, and the at the Philharmonie. The bi-annual , which always delivers a very varied programme, being held at the Mierscher Kulturhaus over the weekend of 18 and 19 March was the third item.
Finally, Duncan’s track of the week was Doers by New York post-punk band Bodega from their brand-new album Broken Equipment.
