Station manager Lisa McLean hosted the breakfast show on Ara City Radio on Monday morning and welcomed online editor-in-chief Duncan Roberts into the studio for the regular Delano’s Top of the Week slot.
The swearing in by Grand Duke Henri of new environment minister Joëlle Welfring on Monday morning kick-started a discussion about cabinet reshuffles and the selection process for new ministers by the coalition parties. The resignation of Welfring’s predecessor, Carole Dieschbourg, means that of the 5 of the 17 cabinet ministers that were sworn into office by the grand duke after the last elections in October 2018 have now departed for various reasons and there have been several reshuffles of prominent new ministers apart from Backes, including Paulette Lenert at health and Sam Tanson at justice.
Lisa and Duncan also looked ahead to 2023 when local elections in June will be followed by parliamentary elections in October. Lisa stressed the importance of voting in local elections, with councils having a measurable impact on the daily life of their residents. Non-Luxembourgers have never had it easier to register to vote for the local elections.
Duncan then provided listeners with a selection of things to do in the coming week from the Delano agenda, including the Anne Simon production of Shakespeare’s and the .
Also on the recommended list was , the annual 5km walk to raise awareness of suicide prevention and mental health issues that takes place at locations all around the world. The Luxembourg walk leaves from the Hall Omnisports in Clausen at 5am, with proceeds going to Prévention Suicide of D'Ligue (La Ligue Luxembourgeoise d’Hygiène Mentale), SOS Détresse and Kanner-Jugendtelefon. Walkers should sign up in advance.
Finally, Duncan recommended Calexico’s new album El Mirador ahead of the band’s concert at den Atelier on 11 May.
