That will make the capital “one of the first European cities to provide a 100% electric bike network”, the Ville de Luxembourg said on 15 January.
The new system will start operations on 1 July 2018, the city stated. During the initial phase, 800 new bikes will be available at 80 bike rental stations. The bikes currently in use will be replaced over time.
The city awarded the contract to JCDecaux, the incumbent operator, because its proposal was “economically the most attractive”. The agreement runs through 1 January 2028.
