The event took place following 12 months of works related to the tram line extension.

The redevelopment was carried out by Luxtram and took into account the results of a citizen participation process, led by the City of Luxembourg.

The square is decorated with 18 plane trees and a dry fountain. Several public benches around the square and cafes and restaurants invite passers-by to stop for a drink on the terrace and take advantage of the new layout. The new square also makes it possible to host local festivities and the new weekly market, the "Garer Maart", which will be held every Thursday from 7.30am to 2pm starting 8 July.
