It was not complicated to find the way to Luxcon: boulevard Pierre Dupong was filled with cosplayers of all kinds. Welcomed by a bouncy castle and a medieval fight by means of foam swords and plastic shields, a festive atmosphere took over the Geeseknäppchen Forum. Just a few steps into the building and the tone was already set. With a Jedi on the right, Ghostbusters on the left and a steampunk ambience in the center, it was difficult for Delano to decide where to begin.

The three-floor-forum offered plenty of workshops and demonstrations of dioramas making, figurine and décor painting, readings, lightsaber and Harry Potter wand manipulation. Authors and vendors gathered on the ground floor, decorated with a multitude of banderols and steampunk decor, notably a boat-like stand with medals, aviator glasses and hats, compasses and telescopes onboard. Collectors were thrilled to get their hands on items from their favorite universe. Between Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Lego, video games and Japanese culture, there was something for everyone.

Despite a programme planned to last till past midnight, the crowd thinned by the end of the afternoon on Saturday 14 April. It was fairly quiet after 6pm.

On Sunday 15 April, however, the hotly anticipated cosplay contest took place, amassing an impressive crowd around the stage.

Video and board game fans took the opportunity to challenge each other in the gaming area, arranged with tables and shelfs full of board games, and screens and joysticks. The curious could discover virtual reality, the last trend in video gaming, and also some other unusual surprises. This year, the Luxcon became a matchmaker by organising geek speed-dating sessions (one for under-18s and one for over-18s).

Luxcon is a meeting of liked-minded individuals, but it is also an occasion for artists to display their creations. Dozens of stands on the first and second floor welcomed virtuosos, presenting their original sculptures, paintings, drawings, jewellery and books revolving around fantasy.

But the highlight of Saturday was Phoenix James. Star Wars enthusiasts gathered around the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” actor, to get his autograph and photo, leaving Luxcon with souvenirs written on their jackets and posters.

Overall, the 5th edition of Luxcon kept its promise to engage fans, geeks, nerds and dweebs during the two-day-conference, in spite of a quiet Saturday that left room for a much more animated Sunday.
