The first public sector blockchain was announced by digitalisation minister Marc Hansen (DP) during the Infrachain Summit on 23 May.

The platform will be operated by a range of public sector actors, including CTIE (Centre des technologies de l’information de l’État) and SIGI (Syndicat intercommunal de gestion informatique).

Hansen said that the platform would allow for applications not only for the public sector, but also for public-private interactions.

“Everyone needs access to these technologies,” Hansen added. “It cannot be the privilege of a social class.”

Blockchain investments are expected to increase substantially: by 2022, it’s estimated investments will total some $11.7bn.
