Opening a flagship Luxembourg store is part of Galeries Lafayette group’s development strategy to open shops outside of France. Luxembourg’s is its third international store to open in 2019.
Some 190 staff will be employed at the French chainstore in Luxembourg, which is the third store to open at the site after book and electronics firm Fnac Darty opened on 7 November and Delhaize on 14 November.
Royal Hamilius is financed by Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, which plans to construct luxury flats in Place de l’Etoile.
In total the city centre complex will have 16 stores and is expected to generate more than 250 jobs, according to Luxembourg job centre Adem.
Operated by Codic, and designed by Foster + Partners with Tetra Kayser, Royal Hamilius will also house Manko, a rooftop restaurant expected to open during the first quarter of 2020.
