It was a moment for representatives from the army and police, business, politics, charities, culture, media and other professional organisations to rub elbows over a drink and canapés.

After personally receiving each invitee with a handshake, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa headed to the gardens, where the roses and delphinium were in full bloom.

Guests were able to tour the grounds to take in views of the castle, gardens and the surrounding landscape as the royal couple met with several invitees.

A second Garden Party will take place on 24 June. The receptions, organised around National Day, gather together the “vital forces” of Luxembourg society.
