That’s according to figures published by Eurostat on 1 January 2019.

The EU statistics agency said alcohol spending made up 0.9% of the country’s GDP, or about €477m.

Eurostat said that across the EU households spent about 1.6% of their “total consumption expenditure on alcoholic beverages”. The highest averages were recorded in Estonia (5.2%), Latvia (4.9%) and Lithuania (4.0%), while the lowest were found in Spain (0.8%), Greece and Italy (both 0.9%).
