Weber starts his six-year term as director on 1 June, the BCL said on Wednesday. His mandate can be extended once by a further six years.
According to his Linkedin profile, Weber has worked for the central bank for nearly 21 years, including as head of the operations department since February 2017. He began his career as a risk analyst with the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and as an economist with the private bank KBL in Luxembourg. He studied economics at the Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg I), and University of Luxembourg, and taxation at the ICHEC business school in Brussels.
Weber replaces Pierre Beck, who will retire from the BCL after two terms as a member of the executive board, the bank stated.
The other members of the executive board, which is responsible for day-to-day management of the central bank, will be Gaston Reinesch, director general, and Roland Weyland, director.
Members of the executive board also sit on the central bank’s council, along with political appointees.
