Lenert was answering a parliamentary question after a leaked document caused a stir on social media. A letter from the health authority sent to a teacher in quarantine stated that they would be allowed out of their 6-day quarantine to “attend classes during school hours” but “any other exit” was prohibited. The matter caught the attention of Pirate Party MP Sven Clement, who requested a response from the health minister.

Anyone who has been in contact with someone who had tested positive for covid-19 is ordered to stay at home and take a test on the 6th day of their quarantine.

Lenert replied on Tuesday that a total of 93 teachers at Luxembourg schools were placed in quarantine between 15 and 21 September, and all of them had received the same letter--they could request to return to the classroom before their quarantine was over. However, the minister said that so far none of the teachers affected had submitted a request to work.

Lenert also said that the health authority was considering similar leniency for other workers, including those in the health and care sectors, under strict conditions.
