RCL was promoted to the top German rugby league for the current 2018-19 season.

In an email sent to the club’s supporters last week, RCL’s president, Fred Gabriel, wrote:

“I could not let the end of the season pass without saying a few words about our senior first team.

“This season marked their return to Bundesliga Division 1 rugby where we are the only club not fielding professionals and the standard is high.

“Having won the first match our hopes were high but over the course of the season we realised first hand why Germany was one match away from qualifying for the Rugby World Cup in Japan later this year!

“Thanks to the wonderful inspiration of Scott, both as coach and player, and James and, laterally, Izaak as coaches the team built up confidence and started to believe in themselves.

“The turning point came when we beat Heidelberg In Heidelberg, who were several slots above us in the table a few weeks ago. We then had another great win against Heusenstamm and culminated in a fine win against Pforzheim last Saturday, where our superior fitness and team spirit won the day.

“As a result of these fine efforts we maintain our position in Bundesliga Division 1 and I and the Club are very proud of this wonderful achievement and we send our congratulations to all who made this possible, particularly the players and coaches.”

RCL is currently ranked 6th in the South-West division.
