Luxembourg City has retained its spot among the 30 most “liveable” cities in the world, an international research firm has said.

The capital ranked 24th in “The Global Liveability Index 2018”, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit on 13 August.

“In 2017 the city was ranked 28th,” a press representative noted in an email to Delano this week. The capital ranked 27th in 2016, 24th in 2015 and 25th in 2014.

According to the research firm’s 2018 report:

“The concept of liveability is simple: it assesses which locations around the world provide the best or the worst living conditions. Assessing liveability has a broad range of uses, from benchmarking perceptions of development levels to assigning a hardship allowance as part of expatriate relocation packages.

….

“Every city is assigned a rating of relative comfort for over 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five broad categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.”

Luxembourg City earned an overall score of 94 out of 100 possible points, the press representative stated. Its category scores were:

  • Stability: 95.0
  • Healthcare: 100.0
  • Culture & environment: 93.3
  • Education: 83.3
  • Infrastructure: 92.9
