In the wake of two lethal road accidents last weekend, the national road safety association of Luxembourg (Sécurité Routière) reached out to the minister for sustainability and infrastructure, François Bausch, to reconsider sentences for severe road criminals.
The fatalities from last weekend were caused under the influence of alcohol, as the Police Grand-Ducale communicated in a press release on 23 September. Therefore, the road safety association and Bausch agreed on severely tightening alcohol controls.
Moreover, “risk awareness”, which is an educational module, will be added to the driver licence programme to promote a shift in mentality among young drivers. Reducing the maximum speed on country roads from 90km/h to 80km/h is another point of discussion among the authorities.
