Organised locally by LuxUtsav, in Itzig, the festival draws from the legend of the ten-handed, weapon-bearing Goddess Durga, pictured in the above photos, riding a lion and emerging victorious over the shape-shifting, deceptive and powerful buffalo demon king Mahishasura.

Besides the legend, the festival is also a chance to express gratitude for the annual harvest to the Supreme Power.

“Visitors from nationalities across Luxembourg joined in the festivities across all four days. The first year of Lux Durga Puja was a grand success!”, Nimkee Gupta, part of the organisational team, told Delano on Monday evening.
