According to our sister publication Paperjam, Wallenborn Transports currently operates two diesel terminal tractors for moving trailers in at the freight depot in Findel.
It announced on 20 August that it is testing an all-electric terminal tractor. Luxair, meanwhile, has provided charging stations for the vehicles.
“In the coming months, several fully electric terminal tractor models will be tested to replace diesel-powered vehicles,” the Luxembourg group wrote in a press release.
“The advantage of using terminal tractors, rather than trucks to move trailers from docking stations to parking lots, is that it is easier and faster to connect the trailer.
“The automatic fifth wheel coupling allows articulated trucks to be coupled and lifted without the driver having to leave the seat.”
“The advantages of an all-electric terminal tractor include very low noise levels compared to industrial and commercial vehicles, and of course, they are more environmentally friendly. The traction capacity is the same as that of diesel, up to 44 tonnes,” the group said.
