Car sales in Luxembourg held steady last year, with German brands dominating the market.

52,811 new motor vehicles were registered in 2018, up slightly from 52,775 in 2017 and 50,561 in 2016.

That’s according to figures from the National Vehicle Testing Centre (SNCT), which were published on the website of Statec, the national statistics agency.

German makes were the most popular, representing the top 3 brands and 7 of the 20 best selling manufacturers (including Fords made in Germany).

While Volkswagens, BMWs and Mercedes topped the list, Volvo sales rose 33.6% over 2017 to just over 1,900 vehicles. “The brand has changed its identity and is in direct competition with the Germans,” Carine Collé, director of the Volvo dealer based in Niederkorn, told Paperjam on 8 January.
