Citizen rights group British Immigrants Living in Luxembourg, or Brill for short, organised the eight-kilometre walk to “reclaim our right as EU citizens to freedom of movement”.

The small group were noticeable for their bright blue T-shirts adorned with the stars of the EU flag. The picturesque hike took them from Schengen, the village after which the treaty dispensing with internal border checks was named, through to Contz-les-Bains, in France.

“Beautiful sunshine and scenery and a serious message about what Brits in the EU 27 stand to lose,” Brill coordinator Neil Bennett posted on Facebook.
