The “summer party” was a chance to celebrate successes, and reflect on challenges for next season, for both the senior squads and junior teams.

Recapping the 2018-19 season, the club’s Paolo Tarakdjian reported to Delano that:

“Our first senior team managed to maintain their position in the Bundesliga 1, a great achievement for RCL considering that most of the teams in Germany are semi-professional. The second senior team reached the playoff in the Regionalliga thanks to a number of new players, who brought energy and enthusiasm to support the first team.

“A few young players from RCL, managed to earn a place in the national team, contributing massively to a successful season for Luxembourg.”

On the juniors side, Tarakdjian, who is president of the Rugby Club Luxembourg, wrote:

“In the junior section the start of the year was tough, and the U18 team was relegated to division 2, finishing second place in their pool. Same story for the U16 which battled until the end to gain a promotion, and also finished second in their division. The U14 were the stars of the season, winning their pool and being promoted to the first division. All junior teams play in the Belgian championship.”

The RCL head said the club continues to recruit new players and develop the sport in the country. He stated:

“Just this week, a rugby camp started with 85 young players from all the Luxembourg rugby clubs, this is a great success for a sport that keeps growing in the country.

“As always we welcome new players every year, of all ages and abilities, that want to be part [of] the family of RCL.”

Saturday’s charity tombola raised more than €1,000 for the RCL Social Club.
