Global law firm DLA Piper has announced the appointment of David De Cubber as counsel and local head of a newly developed insurance and reinsurance practice in Luxembourg.

DLA Piper wants to position the Luxembourg office “as a key market participant” in the field of insurance and reinsurance. To complete this task, it has nominated David De Cubber. De Cubber has over 20 years of experience in the legal sector, having started his career at BGL BNP Paribas as a jurist. He was also head of legal at HSBC for six years. Following that, De Cubber worked as head of corporate legal, then head of the legal department at Lombard International Assurance, for a total of six years.

Country managing partner Catherine Pogorzelski said she was “thrilled” about the nomination, adding that “his technical skills, entrepreneurial mindset and client-centric approach, combined with his extensive experience, will strengthen our local positioning in the (re)insurance field and enable us to grow our market share in the financial services and (re)insurance industries.”

“I am delighted to be joining the growing and globally positioned DLA Piper team and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead,” De Cubber said in a statement released by the firm.

In 2021, DLA Piper launched a tri-dimensional investment management and funds business line.
