“Knives, cooking, barbecue and the world of tattooing are all three complementary extensions to the butcher's trade that we have been doing for years!” This is how, unanimously and with one voice, butcher Guy Kirsch and his wife Nicole enthusiastically announce the opening of their two new shops, this Monday on 21 March in the heart of Luxembourg, at 3 and 5 Grand-Rue.
Beautiful knives and perfect cooking
At number 3 we will see the first “Kirsch by Nicole” shop, where Nicole will offer a beautiful range of butcher's knives, kitchen knives and knives for more regular use, as well as a few well-found accessories for preparing and cooking meat. “I find that a cutlery shop was missing and I've been wanting to have my own space for a while. With a clear trend towards home cooking and the return of the artisanal barbecue during the lockdowns, people are keen to have beautiful and efficient accessories. Knives, which I am particularly interested in, are obviously at the heart of this. And they are timeless”, says the shop's future manager.
The range is suitable for all budgets with blades ranging from €15 to €400/500, and consists of the couple's three favourite cutlers with whom they have been working for many years: German companies Cuttworxs and Dick, as well as Tramontina from Brazil. The Dick knives include Guy's historic Ajax 1905 and Nicole's classic Pink Spirit kitchen knife, a brand she has worked with in the past. Tramontina has some very nice sets with boards in the shop that are perfect for gifts, while Cuttworxs represents the top of the range, including a stylish series featuring hardened charcoal.
Other accessories include everything you need to create your own burgers, cook at low temperatures or marinate your favourite meats with Marco Greulich’s spices, the former world barbecue champion as well as a few small accessories and bottles to create well-stocked gift baskets. It is also worth mentioning there is the possibility of having your personal blades sharpened on the spot.
A butcher's shop and a street food counter
As for the adjoining space at number 5, it will obviously be a Kirsch butcher's shop with home-made meats and preparations, but with a special twist for the city centre: a "100% Kirsch" street food counter, with Luxembourg specialities and sandwiches “where there will be more ham than bread”, promises Guy, who concludes in a more serious tone: “When I started working, it was here, in the city centre, and I used to pass by the butcher's shop Beck every day, which was very well known at the time, and which I liked a lot. I'm really proud to occupy the same space today and to somehow continue to pass on Luxembourg's butchery know-how in this way!”
