Since 2021, the House of Startups (HoST) and Foyer have been working hand in hand to bring public and private ecosystems together around innovative projects. A look back at a collaboration that is inspiring innovation players in Luxembourg.

Innovation in Luxembourg is rooted in a collective dynamic and a spirit of openness. At the heart of this ecosystem, the partnership between Foyer Group and the House of Startups (HoST), powered by the Chamber of Commerce, is an exemplary success story. The two organizations quickly established a strong connection.

Foyer Group, initially focused on innovation in the financial sector through its partnership with the LHoFT (Luxembourg House of Financial Technology), has broadened its horizons thanks to the support of the House of Startups. The two organizations quickly found a natural fit, through the involvement of Marc Hotton, Head of Innovation at Foyer Group, in the Open Innovation Club of the House of Startups.

This alliance has led to the organisation of landmark hackathons, including Foyer's 100th anniversary hackathon in 2022, followed by editions focusing on generative AI technologies in 2023 and most recently on embedded insurance, at the end of 2024.

‘A partnership like this is first and foremost a human adventure designed to bring innovation to the ecosystem,’ says Marc Hotton, Head of Innovation at Foyer Group. These projects are a concrete expression of our vision of collaborative, high-impact innovation.

In addition to the hackathons, the success of the partnership can be measured through initiatives such as Foyer's ‘Innovation Days’, where employees get hands-on experience of innovative solutions and objects. The support provided by the HoST in terms of coaching, logistics and networking with other start-ups strengthens the Luxembourg ecosystem as a whole. The synergy between the two entities is also illustrated by the way in which start-ups can benefit from these initiatives: whether in terms of strategic advice, sharing experiences or access to new markets, the opportunities created by this collaboration are numerous. Philippe Linster, CEO of the HoST, sums up the partnership: ‘The best interactions happen when there's a good flow, and that's exactly what we're trying to encourage: regular exchanges that lead to concrete initiatives and innovation.’

This partnership symbolizes the shared desire to help businesses become more innovative while stimulating economic growth and the development of start-ups. The vision shared by Foyer and the House of Startups is clear: to make Luxembourg a model of public-private collaboration in the field of innovation. By bringing together talent, resources and ideas, the two partners are helping to build a sustainable and prosperous future for the Luxembourg economy. An ambition that never ceases to inspire.
