Parts of Echternach and Vianden have been ordered evacuated due to Thursday’s flooding.

Echternach’s mayor and emergency response officials decided to “evacuate the population from the town this afternoon,” the grand duchy’s fire and rescue service, CGDIS has . “The CGDIS with the support of the army and the police is organising this logistical challenge. Please wait for help and do not take isolated action.”

“Only people in a flooded area will be offered to evacuate,” the CDGIS subsequently . “They will then be guided to the facilities made available by the municipality.”

Vianden’s evacuation order

Vianden’s local council on Thursday afternoon that rue Victor Hugo, rue du Vieux Marché, rue Théodore Bassing and rue du Ruisseau “were evacuated due to flooding.”

Earlier on Thursday, Vianden town hall the area was experiencing “a major power outage”.
