Luxembourg counts several outdoor bathing lakes, such as the Lac de la Haute Sûre and the Remerschen and Weiswampach lakes. And a new one will be joining them this summer.
“The water management administration found the water quality to be good enough to meet the requirements for officially recognised bathing water,” said alderman Ben Scheuer (LSAP), in charge of the environment but also recreation and sport.
The commune has upgraded paths around the lake for pedestrians as well as better connecting nearby parking facilities.
The Echternach lake was created in the 1970s and in the summer hosts events such as the e-Lake festival, open air cinema nights and sports events. As part of the refurbishment of the area around the lake, the commune has also set up new play areas for children and fitness stations for adults.
Located in the east of Luxembourg on the border with Germany, Echternach has a population of just over 5,600 inhabitants. On peak days, more than 11,000 people visit the lake on the outskirts of the city.
The commune did not provide a date when the lake would open for swimmers.
