Economy minister Franz Fayot (LSAP) denies having put pressure on company RSS Hydro to fire scientist Jeff Da Costa after he criticised the government for its reaction to the July 2021 floods.

Former RSS Hydro employees said in an article published by the Luxemburger Wort that Fayot and Dudelange mayor Dan Biancalana had put pressure on the company resulting in Da Costa's firing. “I do not know Mr Jeff Da Costa or Mr Guy Schumann of RSS Hydro personally. I also never had personal contact with them to my knowledge. I also never intervened or pressured for an employee of the company to be fired,” said the economy minister .

CSV parliamentary group co-chairs Martine Hansen and Gilles Roth, called on Fayot to provide a list of government representatives who had been present at the ICT Spring fair during which Da Costa alleges his boss was pressured to fire him.

Da Costa, a PhD student at the University of Reading was working for hydrology company RSS-Hydro and told Radio 100,7 that He alleged that he was let go because of political pressure. Following the floods, Da Costa criticised the reaction of the government, saying it fell short in terms of warning Luxembourg residents.
