Electricity consumption declined in Luxembourg in 2020 while the costs rose Shutterstock

Electricity consumption in Luxembourg declined 4.5% in 2020, compared to the year before, largely as a result of the pandemic.

Figures published on Wednesday by , show that total consumption fell to 6,262 GWh (gigawatt-hour).

Annual consumption of natural gas declined 9%, though this was a result of milder temperatures.

The ILR reported that 1,046 customers switched electricity suppliers in 2020, with a rate of 0.7% in terms of volume and 0.3% in terms of customer numbers. It found that only 191 customers switched natural gas suppliers in 2020.

The cost of electricity rose 10% in 2020. Meanwhile, the cost of natural gas fell by 10%.
