Frieden will take over from Christoph Leitl as Eurochambre’s president on 1 January. He was elected during the chamber’s general assembly on 15 October.

“The post-pandemic recovery is a top priority for businesses and our chamber network. Restoring and deepening this single market will be a key element to reboot prosperity and resilience. Our stakeholder involvement in the policy debate will be essential to help businesses lead the twin green and digital transition and secure skills fit for the future,” said Frieden.

“Eurochambres must actively promote free and fair international trade relations with the EU candidate countries, as well as with the major economic actors such as the United States, China and Russia,” added Eurocambre’s next president.

Frieden has been chair of the Luxembourg chamber of commerce since 2019. He served as minister of justice and minister of finance of Luxembourg between 1998 and 2013 while also chairing the 2013 annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Frieden is a practicing lawyer and has degrees in law from the University of Paris 1 Sorbonne, the University of Cambridge and Harvard.
