17 March marks what to many will be the beginning of a long St Patrick’s weekend. With the Irish national day falling on a Thursday, many pubs have celebratory events planned all the way through to Sunday. With the forecast predicting good weather, several events are already fully booked. Delano selected some addresses for anyone looking to join.
Pub Festivities
was planning to have live music, but, due to some last-minute logistical problems, is trying to find a replacement. Regardless, the furniture will be moved to allow for extra space and dancing, with Irish tunes and drinks to encourage guests. The pub opens at 5pm and closes at 1am.
is celebrating St Patricks from 17 to 20 March. Altagore--an Irish folk/rock band based in the Glens of Antrim--will be flown in especially to play until 19 March. The kitchen will be open up to around 11pm. EireLux’s XXL size TVs will show the six nations too. EireLux is open until 3am from Thursday to Saturday. Sunday will be a family day, the owner tells Delano, with Irish dancing, a tombola and the promise of pies planned. The daughter of the pub owner is an Irish dancing champion and is expected to join the festivities.
in the centre of Luxembourg City is open from 11am to 1am. Guinness is priced at €6.50 and the popular two-for-one deal is also valid on Thursday between 6 and 9pm.
will feature live music from an Irish rock band fronted by Ethan Carey, who describes himself as a street performer. Carey moved from west Ireland to the grand duchy two years ago. Carey tells Delano that he plays folk rock, and not to expect too many traditional Irish songs from him. He is set to play between 6 to 9pm--at which point the band have an hour to move over to the Big Beer Company where they’ll be playing from 10pm for the rest of the evening. Ethan is playing at rock box on Friday and Hertz pop up on Saturday. Guinness is priced at €7 and the establishment is open from 6pm to 1am.
also based in Clausen is promising Irish themed festivities until Saturday. Open from 5pm to 1am on Thursday, the renovated historic brewery will have DJs playing until 3am on Friday and Saturday. Green-coloured beers, Guinness and Irish whisky will be on offer for this special occasion.
A shuttlebus to Clausen is available from Glacis carpark, leaving every 30 minutes.
opens its doors at noon for St Patrick’s day with live music from 3pm and the StrEatChef food truck to be on site between 5-7pm. The truck is famed for its Guinness Beef Burger. Alizeti, Alex Michael, Carl Wyatt & The Delta Voodoo Kings and DJ Andrew Martin will perform at the venue. Football, Gaelic football and Rugby is also expected to be shown.
finally reopened last Friday after suffering substantial damage during last year’s floods. Although not an Irish pub, it has said it will mark the occasion by playing Irish music.
