Within a few days, some activities will be restricted to vaccinated or recovered individuals only. The most basic and necessary ones will however remain accessible by everyone.

Without a test you can still

Do your shopping: going to the supermarket or any store such as a bakery, a butchery or a cheese store will still be possibly. Wearing a mask is and will remain the only thing you need to do under all circumstances. The same applies to most individual shops and shopping malls.

Going to university: system and students can therefore attend classes, provided that they wear a mask. Only vaccinated teachers can choose to remove their mask during their classes.

Going to pray: no particular restrictions, other than the respect of barrier gestures, apply to places of worship. governing the various religious services.

Going to the BNL: the Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg fully reopened its reading room in October. The CovidCheck regime is not in use there, and only the respect of barrier gestures is required (starting with the wearing of a mask). The uses the same system.

Going to the hairdresser: there is no official recommendation that hairdressers or beauty salons and tattoo parlours, should apply CovidCheck. However, clients must wear a mask.

Fulfilling administrative obligations: in order to not hinder any activity that is considered essential, administrative counters remain accessible, even without CovidCheck.

Taking public transport: Only wearing a mask is compulsory when taking public transport (bus, tram and train) in Luxembourg. However, if you take the TGV from Luxembourg to Paris, the CovidCheck system applies. France requires Luxembourg residents who have not been vaccinated to have a certified negative test from less than 24 hours ago.

Sleeping in a hotel: even if CovidCheck is required for access to the catering areas (breakfast, restaurant, bar), you can book a room in a hotel without any constraints. The Horesca Federation indicates that CovidCheck can also be applied to conference rooms and wellness areas at the discretion of the hotel. It is even possible to have breakfast or a meal in the hotel room without CovidCheck.

Donate blood: be between 18 and 60 years old, weigh more than 50 kg, be in good health, have some time and be motivated. These are for in order to donate blood. In addition to the respect of barrier gestures on site, of course.

Go to work: for the time being, nothing prevents residents from going to work, even if their company has decided to apply the CovidCheck in the workplace. However, in this specific situation, you are required to present a certified negative test. PCR tests are valid for 48 hours and antigen ones for 24. On the other hand, from 15 January, the , both in the public and the private sector, requiring unvaccinated or not recovered employees to test.

Attendance at certain events: events with less than 10 people can take place without restrictions. Events with between 10 and 50 people can take place with distancing rules, while gatherings of up to 200 people can operate under a 3G CovidCheck (getest-geimpft-genesen, or tested, vaccinated or recovered). But these are only recommendations and event organisers can choose to allow only vaccinated or recovered individuals.

Go to the hospital: CovidCheck is in force in Luxembourg's hospitals. Since 1 December, identity checks have been implemented following a recommendation by the Luxembourg Hospital Federation (FHL). At the reception desk, non-vaccinated patients or accompanying persons can, without CovidCheck, carry out a certified rapid antigen test to enter the hospital.

Visiting your grandparents at retirement facilities: the wearing of a mask and a rapid antigen test will be compulsory for all visitors at retirement homes.

Going to the thermal baths in Mondorf: It is not certain if the thermal baths at Mondrof will be restricted to vaccinated or recovered individuals yet. But the CovidCheck regime will be applied to wellness and fitness facilities. For medical treatments, it is .

With or without a test, you will no longer be able to

Go to restaurants: CovidCheck is currently in force in the hotel and catering sector. As a non-vaccinated person, since 1 November, a certified negative test opens the door to any establishment in the catering industry. Terraces are even exempt from the CovidCheck regime. However, the government is envisaging to restrict restaurants and terraces to vaccinated or recovered people. This will leave only one option for the non-vaccinated: takeaway or delivery.

Seeing a film at the cinema: As one of the many leisure activities, the cinema will be affected by the new legislation limiting access to cinemas to those who have been vaccinated or who have recovered from covid-19. The same applies to the theatre.

Going to the gym: unless you go for a run or do your exercises outside, working out will soon no longer be allowed for non-vaccinated people. Sports and fitness centres, gyms, tennis clubs, golf courses, football pitches (indoors or outdoors) will be reserved for vaccinated or recovered individuals.

Going to the swimming pool: The same applies to swimming pools which soon will be available for vaccinated or recovered people only.

Visiting the Christmas market: Thee Christmas market in Esch-sur-Alzette has already switched to a system which only allows recovered or vaccinated people since 1 December. The one in Differdange is to follow suit as soon as the law allows. Dudelange do the same from 10 December. Elsewhere, administrations are waiting for legal details before taking a position, but it is likely that Christmas markets will become reserved for vaccinated or recovered individuals in the run-up to the end of the year. 

Attending an event with more than 200 people: once the law is passed, events with more than 200 people will be limited to those who are vaccinated or who have recovered from covid-19.
