During the festival, the Luxembourg Film Fund showcased VR formats at the pavilion, some of which could be viewed in a specially equipped VR cinema offering a 360 ° experience and specially designed installations within Neimënster’s atmospheric vaulted rooms.
With the festival finished, viewers still have an option to rent out a headset for two to three days and interact with a carefully curated selection of films at home.
For €20 euros, visitors can book the VR to Go kit either at the location itself, or via e-mail ( ). After selecting whether to borrow from Tuesday to Thursday, or Friday to Sunday, and paying a fully refundable €200 security deposit, users will be able to use the technology to watch films such as Adult Children (Hickson, Wares--2021), Noah’s Raft (Benson, Haring--2020), Replacements (Hagard--2020) or Odyssey 1.4.9 (Vautier--2019).
The Luxembourg Film Fund hopes to showcase and nurture local film talent while also talking about how the 120-year-old film industry is changing the way it is making and sharing content with new emerging technologies.
Those who wish to experience and interact with narratives in an innovative way, while in the comfort of their own house, can visit the former monastery. As the pandemic is not completely over just yet, Neimënster disinfects the VR to Go kits between uses and provides guests with further disinfection products to use at home. VR sets are not recommended for children under the age of thirteen, Neimënster notes.
If and amazement is anything to go by, “This is a whole different ballgame.”
