Luxembourg cooperation and humanitarian aid minister Franz Fayot (LSAP) is visiting Palestine from 6 to 9 September to take stock of projects supported by Luxembourg.

On the agenda of Franz Fayot’s working visit are meetings with Palestine’s prime minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, foreign minister Riad Malki, and finance minister Shoukry Bishara. Luxembourg humanitarian aid minister will also meet with representatives of the European Union and the European Investment Bank based in Palestine.

As of 2019 Luxembourg’s cooperation programme contributes €3,75m annually to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA) in addition to €750,000 for one of the agency’s health projects. The grand duchy supports three local NGOs (PARC, AMAN and PMRS) in the fields of health, agronomy, the fight against corruption and capacity-building for women. In 2019 Luxembourg’s contribution to Palestine was approximately €7m.

In July the minister for development cooperation and humanitarian undertook a  that included attending the opening of the Manifesta biennial in Pristina. During his stay in the Balkan country, Fayot met with deputy prime minister Besnik Bislimi and signed a new bilateral agreement (covering 2023 to 2030) and a new Memorandum of Understanding for 2023 to 2025 which has an in indicative budget of €35m.
