The announcement is “a sign of confidence in Luxembourg as a leading logistics hub in Europe,” says minister of the economy Franz Fayot.

Technology communications company Vodafone has unveiled plans to create a 29,000m2 pan-European Logistics Hub in Bettembourg. The facility, which will consolidate most of the company’s network inventory in a smart and sustainable warehouse that will be at the heart of Vodafone’s supply chain strategy, according to CEO of Vodafone Procurement Company Ninian Wilson.

“We are aiming for a sustainable and eco-friendly design, smart logistic solutions and green technologies to maximize automation and contribute to Vodafone’s net zero emission target,” said Wilson, who is also the global supply chain director. He adds that the facility will It will make Vodafone’s physical supply chain more agile and resilient.

“It will also strengthen Vodafone’s presence in Luxembourg and reinforce Luxembourg’s position as a world-class logistics centre, while creating additional employment opportunities in the logistics sector,” adds Wilson.

That was a theme also taken up by minister for the economy at the Arch Summit, where he and Wilson and Vodafone Group CEO, Nick Read signed a Memorandum of Understanding. “The expansion of Vodafone’s activities in Luxembourg is a sign of confidence in Luxembourg as a leading logistics hub in Europe,” Fayot said. “The increased presence of a leader in technology communication such as Vodafone strengthens and diversifies the sectors of high value-added logistics and industry 4.0 which is among Luxembourg’s priorities for a sustainable and digital development of our economy.”

In addition to the Vodafone Procurement Company, the telecoms giant has also established its global roaming hub, Vodafone Roaming Services, and its Tomorrow Street innovation accelerator in partnership with Technoport in the grand duchy since arriving in 1999 to set up its holding company.
