The grand duchy’s first automated red light camera will enter service this week.

The country’s first red light camera will start operating at the place de l’Étoile in Luxembourg City on Friday. “This crossing is particularly sensitive given the regular passage of the tram,” the transport ministry on 19 July.

In addition to snapping pictures of drivers who run red lights, the camera will enforce the 50kmh speed limit, “regardless of the colour of the... traffic signal at the moment.”

The ministry said it planned to install the same type of devices at the intersection of route d’Esch and boulevard Dr Charles Marx in Luxembourg-Hollerich, and at the intersection of the A4 access road and boulevard Pierre Dupong, near Lycée Aline Mayrisch, also in Luxembourg-Hollerich.
