Since 2 March 2025, the tramway has had a new terminus on its northernmost end: Findel-Luxembourg Airport. With after Luxexpo, the tram finally goes all the way to the airport. , so what’s the new best option? Tram, bus, car? Paperjam takes a look at five routes.
Departing from Gare Centrale
This is THE route par excellence that the tram had to serve. The station-airport link was important. But in retrospect, was it really needed? Bus 29 remains the fastest option, with a wide range of timetables and a bus every 20 minutes. In under 22 minutes, it links the country’s two nerve centres. It’s the transport you can trust and take with your eyes closed. Cars take almost as long. On Google Maps and Mobiliteit.lu, the tram is not one of the options on offer. Bus 223 is another option--if you’re near Gare Rocade rather than Gare Centrale--but it’s less frequent.
Departure from Theater tram stop
A bridge from Kirchberg and a few minutes from the city centre, this stop offers the tramway as the best option, taking just 16 minutes. What’s more, with a frequency of eight minutes, waiting time is really reduced. A few steps away, the 16 bus also takes you to the airport, but in 28 minutes. The car, once again, takes almost as long as the fastest public transport: between 17 and 20 minutes.
Leaving from Stadium tram stop
Against all odds, taking the tram from one end of the line to the other is not the quickest way. It’s direct and practical, especially if you have heavy luggage. But the tram takes 48 minutes to get there. Mobiliteit asked us to take the tram to Central Station, then a train to Cents, and then get on Bus 29 (yes, that one again). Despite the changes, the journey takes just 34 minutes. As for Google Maps, it offers numerous bus-bus combos that take between 38 and 55 minutes. The conclusion is clear: the car takes just 16 minutes to get there, dividing the journey time by two or three.

Leaving from Belval
From the south of the country, by public transport, you need to take a train to Central Station followed by Bus 29 (the safe bet) for a total of over an hour. Or, for the more adventurous among us, stop at Howald Station and take Bus 302. You should allow between 25 and 40 minutes by car, depending on traffic conditions. No comparison here: the car is much faster.
Departure from Wasserbillig
From the far east of the country, it takes between 21 and 27 minutes to get to Findel by car. This time is trebled by public transport. There are numerous train-bus and bus-bus combos, but none of them seem to take less than an hour. The exception is Bus 303, which arrives at Kirchberg and provides a connection with the tram at two additional stops, taking a total of 44 minutes.
As you can see, Bus 29 saves lives. So do cars. The tramway doesn’t change much unless you’re on its direct line, at Kirchberg and the city centre.
