Fuel prices in Luxembourg on 9 August cost as much as at the start of the war in Ukraine.

Over the last few months prices at the pump have consistently gone down and now stand at similar levels to the ones on 26 February--two days after the start of the war in Ukraine. A litre of Super 95 sold for €1.595 at the start of Russia’s invasion and now can be purchased for €1.598. Diesel prices have also gone down (€1.687) but they stand some way off the levels as of 26 February (€1.50).

Still, this is a remarkable decrease in prices compared to May, when, for the first time in Luxembourg, the price of unleaded 98 petrol crossed the €2/l threshold. On 17 May, Super 95 was up €0.065/l to €1.871/l and Super 98 cost €2.031/l (+0.037€/l). Diesel, had at the beginning of March, but still €1.779/l on 17 May (+€0.034/l) in May.

These prices take into account the automatic government rebate--7.5c/litre of petrol or diesel--which came into . The government is currently , finance minister  (DP) confirmed in July.
