There may not be a Schueberfouer this year, but there’s late summer fun to be had at Fun um Glacis.

The capital inaugurated Fun um Glacis, featuring rides and funfair food stalls, on Saturday. The event runs for three weeks.

The city in a 21 August press release: “Besides the Alpina Bahn--the world’s largest travelling roller coaster without inversions (loops), and one of the main attractions at Schueberfouer 2019--visitors can look forward to the world’s largest travelling five-loop roller coaster--the Olympia Looping--as well as attractions for children, games of skill and chance, and popular heart-stopping attractions such as the Bayernkurve, the Breakdance and the Shaker’s.”

Fun um Glacis also features favourite funfair snacks, such as chocolate-covered fruit, Gromperekichelcher and waffles, the city said.

The event is part of the city’s D’Stad lieft (My city’s alive) programme of neighbourhood fairs and events that replaced the annual Schueberfouer funfair, the country’s largest, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.

There are two areas at Fun um Glacis. In Zone A, which includes the rides and funfair games, masks are mandatory. In Zone B, featuring food and drink, a Covidcheck scan or supervised rapid test is required.

Fun um Glacis takes place on the Glacis, in Limpertsberg, every day from 11am and 11pm through Sunday 12 September. .
