Luxembourg reduced its consumption of natural gas by 40.9% in September 2023 when compared to the 2017-2022 reference period, the energy ministry said on 10 October.

Summer is over and Luxembourg continues to reduce its use of natural gas. After a , the grand duchy’s energy ministry announced in a that the reduction in Luxembourg’s natural gas consumption amounted to 40.9% in September. This drop in gas use goes far beyond the 15% reduction goal.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the European Union last year established a voluntary gas demand reduction target of 15%----that aims to help EU member states prepare for the winter and to guarantee a stable energy supply.
