In October 2017, the CSV came out on top in the municipal elections in Esch-sur-Alzette. The CSV-déi Gréng-DP coalition, led by mayor-to-be (CSV, 48 years old), at that time put an end to the LSAP’s 98-year-long presence at the head of the country’s second largest city.
Without much surprise, Mischo has now announced that he will run for a second term in the municipal elections to be held on 11 June. The deputy mayor will lead a list of 19 names, including the five other current members of the CSV in the municipal council (aldermen André Zwally and Christian Weis, but also councillors Catarina Simoes, Bruno Cavaleiro and Jacques Müller).
The list is close to parity, with nine women and 10 men, and the average age is just over 41. The youngest candidate, Aaliyah Soares, is only 21 years old.
Also a candidate in the legislative elections
“In preparing this speech, I had another confirmation that we have worked well,” smiled Mischo, who will also be a candidate in the legislative elections next October (in order to keep his mandate as MP).
“I have thus drawn up a list of projects that have been completed--or are in the process of being completed--in Esch since the end of 2017. Some of which had been blocked for years by the LSAP. I came up with more than two pages! And this, despite the health crisis that we have experienced for two years, but also a shorter term of office than usual, given that it lasted five and a half years due to the election dates.”
Although the official programme of the CSV is “still being drafted,” the ambition seems quite simple for Mischo and his team: to continue on the path that has been laid out. “And thus prepare Esch for the future! From 36,612 inhabitants today, our population should rise, according to projections, to 50,000 or 55,000 people by 2030 or 2035. This will require a lot of adaptation in terms of municipal infrastructure,” explains the mayor, who mentions in passing that a “local security plan” will be presented during the first quarter of 2023 (”the working group is working on 70 measures, including video surveillance of certain places in the town,” says Mischo).
The complete list (in alphabetical order) of the CSV in Esch-sur-Alzette: Pascal Bermes, Cindy Denuit, Bruno Cavaleiro, Paul-Marc Dreis, Bob Kirsch, Georges Mischo, Sarah Moreira, Jacques Müller, Annick Thill, Dejvid Ramdedovic, Manon Schmit, Catarina Simoes, Aaliyah Soares, Sindy Stautemas, Nathalie Torres, Christian Weis, Max Weisgerber, Joy Weyrich and André Zwally.
As a reminder, the last communal elections on 8 October 2017 had given the following results: CSV 30.87%, LSAP 27.86%, déi Gréng 13.54%, déi Lénk 9.53%, DP 9.11%, KPL 4.14%, ADR 3.29% and Pirate Partei 1.66%.
