RTL group’s third quarter results show a rise of 10.3% in revenue while the media company plans on expanding its German streaming service RTL+ to a cross-media entertainment service.

The media company, whose headquarters are in Luxembourg, posted positive figures for this year’s third quarter with a 19% increase in TV advertising revenue and a 30.6% increase in streaming revenue. These were some of the more impactful sources of income driving the entire group revenue up by 10.3%, reaching €4,468m.

“Following the launch of our new brand identity, we rebranded our German streaming service to RTL+ as of today, with a growing number of original formats across all genres. In the first half of 2022, we will expand RTL+ to a cross-media entertainment service, comprising video, music, podcasts, audio books and e-magazines,” said RTL Group CEO Thomas Rabe on 4 November.

RTL Group registered 3.402 million paying subscribers for its streaming services RTL+ in Germany and Videoland in the Netherlands as of 30 September 2021. This constitutes a 90.6% rise compared to 12 months ago.

The media company aims to triple its annual content investments to around €600m by 2026. Another aim is growing the number of paying subrscribers for RTL+ and Videoland to 10 million in five years’ time. Streaming revenue of €1bn is also in RTL Group’s sights by 2026.

The projections assume that the economic recovery form covid-19 will continue in the fourth quarter of 2021 as vaccination programmes progress.
