Delano continues its give-away to Congés Annulés shows at Rotondes with a chance to win a pair of tickets for the Italia ’90 and The Homesick gig on 6 August.

Originally from Brighton, London-based quartet Italia ’90 make political, social-commentary post-punk that is distinctly angular in its approach and reminiscent of Gang Of Four and The Fall. Having attended the same school, the band have all known each other for over 15 years and there is that gang mentality about them--they have even adopted stage names, Les Miserable, J Dangerous, Bobby Portrait and Captain ACAB.

Singer and lyricist, Les Miserable Far Out Magazine recently that he doesn’t see himself as a great wordsmith. “I’m not going to write the next song that defines how people feel about relationships or whatever so I might as well be blunt about something that you can actually have an opinion about,” he said of the band’s political songs.

Also on the bill is Dutch trio The Homesick, who played a cracking show at De Gudde Wëllen in 2018 just after releasing their debut album Youth Hunt. The band eventually signed to the legendary Sub Pop label for their last album, 2020’s poppier and brighter The Big Exercise, which The Quietus called a “majestic, a true statement of intent”.

But according to Rotondes, the band has changed direction again and now use a container of samples, keys, loops and cassettes full of recorded sounds on top of the drums to make a sound that “is playful and noisy as always.”
