The first government councillor at the ministry of mobility and public works since September 2024, Gilio Fonck, was unanimously elected as the new chairman of the board of directors of Lux-Airport at a board meeting on Friday 25 October. In taking the helm of the institution, he will assume the strategic direction of the airport, covering the areas of general affairs, air transport, strategy and innovation.
Fonck succeeds Félicie Weycker, who is stepping down from the board of directors, where she has served since 2012 and since 2023 as chairwoman, “to take up new challenges,” says the Lux-Airport press release.
Before joining the airport and the ministry, Fonck was director of administration, finance and human resources at the Maison du Grand-Duc. Prior to that, he was head of representation at the European Commission in Luxembourg. Ten years ago, he was one of the unsuccessful candidates for the post of director of Lux-Airport. In a strategy paper at the time, ways of making the airport “more profitable and independent.”
In 2023, 4.79m passengers passed through Findel and 799,000 tonnes of freight were handled at the Luxembourg airport. The company employs more than 360 staff.
