Luxembourg’s Paralympic shot putter Tom Habscheid improved on his Rio games performance.

Tom Habscheid has placed fourth in the standing shot put at the Paralympics in Tokyo.

Habscheid threw 13.92 metres on Sunday (Japan time). In a statement released via the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee, Habscheid he was disappointed not to secure a medal win: “Today I just didn’t manage to call up my performance. That’s more disappointing than the result itself. We worked so hard for this day, but unfortunately I didn’t have a good day today.”

His coach, Fernand Heintz, was more upbeat, stating: “Tom can be very proud of what he achieved here. Just a year ago Tom was injured and we thought we had to bury our Paralympic dream already.”

Habscheid placed seventh at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“After [gaining] the titles of vice-world champion and vice-Europe champion, you have just demonstrated that your place among the world elite is more than deserved,” , Luxembourg’s deputy prime minister and sports minister (LSAP), in a congratulatory message.

This year’s medal were Aled Davies of Great Britain (15.33m), Sajad Mohammadian of Iran (14.88m) and Faisal Sorour of Kuwait (14.13m).
