A household will be able to legally cultivate up to four cannabis plants for recreational use. This is one of the key measures in the legislative package on “the problem of drug-related crime in Luxembourg” unveiled by several government ministers on Friday.
The consumption of cannabis will remain prohibited in public space, but the bill provides for a “decorrection” limited to three grams. The aim is to lighten the criminal procedure for “the offences of consumption, possession, possession and transport in public, and for acquisition, when the quantity of cannabis does not exceed three grams.”
In sum, the criminal fine, which currently ranges from €251 to €2,500, will be significantly reduced. The government’s proposal would in future set it from €25 to €500. A warning of €145 could also be issued to offenders.
