As covid-19 related hospitalisation rates are stabilising in Luxembourg, the ministry of health and the federation of Luxembourg hospitals has announced hospitals would now become closer to returning to normal.

As of 21 February----24 people were hospitalised for covid-19 in normal care, and 9 in intensive care, while 2 suspect cases for in the normal unit and 1 in the ICU. 78 additional patients in hospital for another reason but who tested positive to the coronavirus, were isolated in normal care, whereas 2 such cases were treated in ICU. “Patients hospitalised for another cause but carrying the COVID-19 virus remain a concern for the internal organisation of hospitals,” the joint press release read.

Under phase two, hospitals other than the CHL can treat patients who caught the virus. Patients can also be transferred between different locations to avoid surgeries being postponed. Previously, non-urgent surgeries that do not have a direct impact on a patient’s health were postponed. This allowed more space in both the normal care and intensive care units for patients suffering from covid-19. Urgent and important interventions were, however, maintained.

at the start of February, during which the curfew for restauration businesses and mandatory CovidCheck in the work place were lifted. With , the government still works on preparing a draft law on mandatory vaccination. This mandate would make inoculation against covid-19 obligatory for over50s--who have more chances of being hospitalised--and healthcare workers who are in contact with vulnerable populations.
